Current vacancies
We have some great opportunities right now at Boult Wade Tennant.
View all vacanciesJo is a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in the High Tech and Electrical Group.
Jo works in a broad range of technical areas from medical devices to aerospace, and from utility monitoring to secured software techniques. Jo has been with Boult for almost 20 years, and has significant experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications around the world. In addition, she has had considerable success in opposition and appeal work before the European Patent Office, including contentious oral hearings. Jo also advises on freedom-to-operate and due diligence matters, as well as filing and prosecuting UK designs.
Jo works with her clients on an individual basis on the grounds that no two clients are ever the same – each has differing requirements and goals. Jo’s main aim is to aid her clients in achieving their goals. She assists individual inventors and local companies in obtaining appropriate levels of patent/design protection for their products. She also has much expertise working with foreign patent attorneys to manage global patent portfolios.
Jo has been closely following the development of the UPC for many years, and is heavily involved in preparing for the new opportunities that this will bring when the court opens its doors.
As one of the senior partners in the Reading office, Jo is heavily involved in the support and training of new team members, from their first day in the office, all the way through to qualification and onwards. In her own examinations, Jo was awarded the UK drafting prize in 2006, as well as the GlaxoSmithKline Prize for Patent Law during her postgraduate certificate in Intellectual Property Law at Queen Mary University of London in 2005.
Jo has a BA (Hons) Physics from the University of Oxford, as well as an MSc Weather, Climate and Modelling and a PhD Meteorology from the University of Reading. Jo’s Meteorology PhD focussed on the predictability of atmospheric blocking, which required an in-depth knowledge of atmospheric fluid dynamics. After obtaining her PhD, Jo worked for a University spin-out company where she researched and wrote software to provide seasonal weather forecasts.
"It was a pleasure to see how well you have handled these cases. I don’t know if another attorney would have achieved such a solid filing for a case with an incomplete disclosure, in a new technology area, and with a very short deadline" (Client comment, by email)
“We all realize the challenges one faces in defending issued patents… Your work rose to and even exceeded the challenge… Great job!” (Client comment, by email)
“Thank you so much for your effort on the application. The project is now complete, and your effort, very much way 'above and beyond', under our tight deadlines, helped ensure the excellence and completeness of the application.” (Client comment, by email)
