Qualifications

  • European Patent Attorney
  • Chartered Patent Attorney
  • Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, Queen Mary University of London
  • MChem, University of Oxford

During my Masters year, I undertook a research project focusing on enzymes that play a role in antibiotic resistance. This project piqued my interest in the commercial and real-world applications of research. The role of a patent attorney appealed most to my curiosity of how science and technology meets with law to impact society at large.

As a Patent Attorney specialising in the areas of chemicals and materials, I assist with preparing, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the UK, Europe and worldwide. I find working across such a broad spectrum of technology, from food science to polymers, catalysts and petroleum refining particularly exciting. Every day brings new challenges, from both a legal and a technical perspective. I enjoy constantly learning and developing my practice and expertise.

During my career to-date, I have developed my analytical skills and my experience of strategy development. Both are critical in formulating the best possible solution for the applicant, within the limits of the legal framework. I have worked with clients to help them obtain patent protection in jurisdictions that are key to their business, whilst working within their budget to develop a strong patent portfolio.

Recent experience

Assisting a start-up company with building and prosecuting its global patent portfolio, including developing a strategy for optimum patent protection in key jurisdictions within the company’s budget.

Assisting a global food company in competitor watching and advising on relevant IP belonging to third parties that may impact the client’s freedom-to-operate.

Assisting with the urgent drafting and filing of a patent application for a food-based product, in light of an imminent scheduled public disclosure.
