My background is mainly in aeronautics and engineering. However, I have always found software, and artificial intelligence (AI) in particular, really interesting. For my master’s project towards the end of my degree, I took a break from classical engineering and worked on a project using AI and machine learning (ML), neural networks in particular, to forecast trends in financial markets. This was a fascinating exposure to the practical uses of ML, and the challenges that arise when trying to implement AI algorithms.
Since I began work as a Patent Assistant, I have had the chance to work with a large variety of technologies. The inventions I’ve worked with range from winglets on aeroplanes to advanced, software-based manufacture methods. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with AI inventions and ML, mainly in the field of computer vision and manufacture.
The part I love most about the job is how I’m always learning about new technologies and the cutting-edge of science. This is particularly true for AI inventions which, as a rapidly expanding area, raises a whole host of technical and legal challenges and opportunities for our clients and us.
