I was first involved with artificial intelligence as a university undergraduate and then developing speech recognition software at a British telecoms company in the late 1980’s, and have maintained an active interest ever since. When I joined Boult some years later, the patenting of software was just becoming a major issue and one which I enthusiastically took a lead on, although at that time financial algorithms were more commonly seen on our desks than neural networks.
We now have a whole team of AI experts here with deep knowledge and expertise across a wide area of fields. Most of my current AI patent work involves the use of machine learning (ML) within the context of scientific instrumentation and systems design, but I have enjoyed working with some neural network hardware implementations AI for both city and data traffic monitoring and management, and in various other areas.
Our Boult AI team works with a wide spectrum of clients. The future will present new opportunities and challenges in the AI and ML space, but I sincerely believe that we at Boult are well-positioned to support clients on even the most complex of AI patent requirements.
