With extensive experience working in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical IP fields, I support clients ranging from start-ups to major multinationals. They know they can rely on me to provide clear, commercially-focused advice, handle all aspects of their patent portfolios and tailor a strategy that helps their business to thrive.

My practice allows me to draw on my passion for science, covering a wide range of biotech and pharma innovation, including diagnostic technologies, vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, micro-organisms, cosmetics and stem cells. I have expertise in the fields of antibodies and CRISPR technology.

Working with clients of all sizes, including start-up companies, SMEs and multinationals, I enjoy gaining a clear understanding of their business and working with them towards achieving their objectives.

I support clients at all stages of their business, from guiding them through the IP process and building a strong patent strategy to protect and exploit their inventions through to supporting the launch of their commercial products.

I have extensive experience of drafting and worldwide prosecution and management of patent portfolios. On the other side of the coin, my practice includes both attacking and defending patents during Opposition and Appeal Proceedings before the European Patent Office, often in multi-party proceedings.

I am also frequently called upon to provide freedom to operate (FTO) advice, coordinating with experts across multiple jurisdictions where activities span the globe. My expertise further includes carrying out due diligence for acquisitions and providing strategic advice on SPC applications.

As an active member for the CIPA Life Sciences Committee, I relish the opportunity to exchange experiences with other members and influence policy. Through IP Inclusive I am also a mentor to young people aspiring to join the profession.

Recent experience

Devising an IP strategy for MedTech start-up 52 North Health, drafting and filing its first patent application.

Providing freedom to operate advice to Abcam in relation to an early stage project, including performing targeted searches, advising on patent term extensions and identifying potential opportunities.
