13 February, 2013

The Unified Patent Court Agreement was duly signed yesterday at a signing ceremony in Brussels. It was signed by nearly all states of the European Union including Italy, which has not as yet joined in the arrangements for the European Unitary Patent. Bulgaria, Poland and Spain have not signed, but Bulgaria is expected to sign shortly.

The process of ratification by national parliaments can now start, and the Agreement will not come into force before at least 13 EU states, including Germany, France and United Kingdom, have completed ratification.
