Our attorneys have extensive expertise in the drafting of original patent specifications and are used to liaising with technical personnel, in-house patent attorneys and individual inventors in the preparation of specifications. The firm files and prosecutes applications in the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe and worldwide. The prosecution process involves the analysis and handling of objections or problems which arise when an application is examined by the Patent authorities before a patent can be granted. Boult Wade Tennant has a substantial practice in prosecuting UK and European patent applications for domestic clients, for organisations based in countries outside Europe and for overseas patent attorney firms.

Post-grant Proceedings
Our attorneys are experienced in providing advice on infringement problems, in litigating in the Patents County Court and in managing infringement litigation in the UK High Court and overseas. The firm has extensive expertise in relation to European Patent Office oppositions and appeals, and our attorneys regularly attend hearings at the European Patent Office in Munich. Once patents are granted, the firm also advises on all aspects of proceedings where the validity of a patent is challenged, such as in revocation or cancellation actions.

Strategy and Policy Advice
Boult Wade Tennant can provide a wide range of advice on patent strategy including reviewing a client's own internal procedures, helping to determine policy to assist in the development of a patent portfolio, advising on licensing strategies, dispute resolution by negotiation, other alternative forms of dispute resolution and litigation.

Portfolio Management and Review
For those clients who require it, Boult Wade Tennant will provide a comprehensive patent portfolio review and put in place a management programme. Our attorneys advise on the ways in which a portfolio may be developed and monitor the progress of inventions on an ongoing basis. This will ensure that a client's budget is not wasted on continuing with patents or applications with no commercial value.
